About Lush Green Reeds: Reeds are tall, grass-like plants commonly found in wetlands, marshes, and along the banks of rivers and lakes. These hardy plants, known for their long, slender leaves, play a crucial ecological role. They act as natural filters, helping to purify water by trapping sediments and pollutants. Reeds also provide important habitats for various species of birds, insects, and small animals, while their dense roots stabilize soil and prevent erosion. Reeds can grow up to 3-6 meters tall, thriving in areas with moist, fertile soils. Additionally, reeds have been historically harvested for use in thatching, crafts, and even as a renewable biofuel source. // Image Credit: DailyJigsawPuzzles.net
Today we're going back to the 1890s and visiting the Bruton Church in the restored area of Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg, Virginia. This puzzle is based on a oil on canvas painting by Alfred Wordsworth Thompson and it depicts the Bruton Parish Church. The church was constructed between 1711 and 1715. The building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970 as a well-preserved early example of colonial religious architecture.
"Bank of the Oise at Auvers" by Vincent van Gogh is a vibrant and energetic depiction of a peaceful riverside scene, painted in 1890 during the final months of his life. This work is part of a series Van Gogh created in Auvers-sur-Oise, a small town outside of Paris where he spent his last weeks. Bold strokes of green, blue, and teal fill the canvas, giving life to the water, trees, and boats resting along the bank. The scene shows rowboats and figures near the river's edge, likely inspired by the leisure activities of the townspeople, a common subject in late 19th-century art. Van Gogh’s signature impasto technique - thick, textured layers of paint - creates a sense of motion and depth, especially in the foliage and water. His expressive brushwork conveys both tranquility and energy, blending nature and human activity into one swirling, vibrant composition.
Chipmunks, small rodents in the Sciuridae family, are native to North America and Asia. Their distinctive appearance includes three dark stripes alternating with lighter ones, and they measure around 5 to 6 inches in length, with tails nearly as long as their bodies. Highly adaptable, chipmunks inhabit diverse environments like forests, woodlands, and suburban areas, where they forage for nuts, seeds, fruits, and insects. They employ specialized cheek pouches to store food in their burrows for later consumption. Communication among chipmunks involves vocalizations such as chirps and squeaks, along with body language like tail flicking. Despite occasionally being considered pests, particularly when raiding gardens or bird feeders, chipmunks play vital roles in ecosystems as seed dispersers.
This new puzzle is based on the 1887 oil on canvas painting by Gustave Caillebotte - a French painter who was a member and patron of the Impressionists, although he painted in a more realistic manner than many others in the group. Between 1877 and 1878, Caillebotte made a series of paintings focusing on swimmers, rowers, fishermen, and canoers at his family estate in Yerres. One of these paintings is Skiffs or "Pesissoires sur L'Yerres" (Flat-Bottom Canoes on the Yerres) how it was originally named. The painting was first exhibited at the fourth impressionist exhibition in 1879.
